On this documentary, King Eric covers ground on why Rawkus Records was special during its era from 1997-2000.
The label was known for its standout boom-bap sound and its roster of artists who focused on conscious and complex lyrics rather than mainstream trends. Giving a platform for talented but unknown artists like Pharhoe Monch, Mos Def and Talib Kweli.
However as the money started coming and the business started changing. Rawkus started to fail to chase trends instead of create them which led to their demise in the mid 2000s.
King Eric covers all of this in this documentary
