Removing and cleaning the solenoid valve stem on a Kobelco excavator requires careful attention to detail and safety precautions. Here is a step-by-step guide:
Tools Required:
• Wrench (appropriate size for your solenoid)
• Screwdriver
• Clean lint-free cloth
• Cleaning solvent (such as brake cleaner or contact cleaner)
• Small brush (e.g. soft toothbrush)
• Container to collect any oil
Steps for Removal and Cleaning:
1. Ensure Safety:
• Turn off the engine: Ensure the excavator is completely shut down and is on a safe, stable surface.
• Disconnect the battery: Disconnect the negative terminal to prevent accidental activation.
• Relieve hydraulic pressure: Move the control levers several times to relieve any residual pressure in the system.
2. Locate the solenoid:
• The solenoid valve is usually located near the hydraulic pump or control valve block. Refer to the machine’s service manual for its exact location.
3. Disconnect the wiring:
• Carefully disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Inspect the connector for dirt or damage and set it aside safely.
4. Remove the solenoid bar:
• Use the appropriate tool (e.g., wrench) to remove the bolts or screws securing the solenoid bar to the valve block.
• Pull the solenoid straight out. Be careful not to damage the O-rings or seals during removal.
5. Inspect and clean:
• Inspect the solenoid for damage, including worn O-rings or debris.
• Use a cleaning solvent to clean the solenoid bar and its components. Spray the solvent onto the bar and use a soft brush to remove dirt or grease.
• Clean the valve opening and surrounding area of the excavator to prevent contamination.
6. Check the O-rings and seals:
• Check the O-rings or seals on the solenoid. If they are cracked or damaged, replace them with new ones.
7. Reinstall the solenoid:
• Carefully insert the solenoid bar into its place.
• Tighten the bolts or screws securely, but do not overtighten.
• Reconnect the electrical connector.
8. Check the system:
• Reconnect the battery.
• Start the engine and run the machine to check the operation of the solenoid.
• Check for any leaks around the solenoid and ensure that it is operating properly.
