💡Idea: I was listening to Flashing Lights by Kanye West, when I heard something I've either never noticed in the song before, or something that's only in the version of the song I was listening to, which I thought was just the normal version, it comes in at 3:11 on this video right here    • Kanye West - Flashin lights (explicit)   (I've set the link to start you at that point, I don't know if it will always work though). I'd never noticed the violin before, but it sounded so beautiful, so I went into FL studio and figured out the notes and played it on it's own to see what it sounded like with nothing else playing, so I put it in FL, and added my own high note in the second part of the loop, and the loop alone sounded really dreamy and like something from 'In The Night Garden' which this whole songs gives off the feel of, so then thinking about how this song could be something you'd listen to at night, I took inspiration from the way øneheart and reidenshi did the bass on snowfall how it adds to the feel a lot and switches up the feel from mellow to an intense mellow, however I didn't want the bass to do that, I just wanted it to fit in with the song but still add some low end, so I chose a nylon guitar from Omnisphere, and the notes came to me as I played the song back, the rest was the same, hearing different melodies in my head as I played the song back, just more and more times, picking the right sounds for the track, sounds that fit the calm, mellow, night time sparkly feel, sound selection and being able to know which sounds should be added to the track is one of the best skills to master and I think I almost have, I say that humbly. I tried to cover a lot of notes in different octaves that were in the key of the song so that as much as the frequency range that could be covered - without it sounding overcrowded - was covered, that way whatever you're listening out for, it's there, high end, mids, low end, all of it, then finally I added the vhs tape in and out sound effects that you hear at the beginning and end as once I'd finished the track, it felt like a dream, like an adventure, something you'd wish you could experience again, so therefore the VHS sounds worked as like a 'rewatching a tape or dvd' type gimmick, I'm really happy with it, and with the track itself, very relaxing, sleepy and 'night-time-like'.
