Grow Apple Ber Tree: How to grow Apple Ber at Home | Health Benefits of Apple Ber Fruits (2020)

Ziziphus Mauritiana, also known as Chinese date, Chinee apple, Indian plum, Indian jujube and dunks is a tropical fruit tree species belonging to the family Rhamnaceae. Apple Ber is also locally called as Baer, Ber (Hindi), Kul (Bengali) ilanthappazham, badari (Malayalam), Ilanthai, Elantha Pazham (Tamil), Yelchi Hannu (Kannada), Regi pandu (Telugu), Bor (Konkani and Marathi).

1. Buy grafted plants of 6 month old from your local nursery. Grafted plants usually will yield fruits so quickly.
2. Pit of 60cm X 60cm X 60cm should be dug at least a week before planting the sapling. Apple Ber plant will spread its roots a lot so it needs bigger pits as much as possible.
3. Normally Apple Ber grows well with any type of soil.
4. Apple Ber tree has a high tolerance to both water-logging and drought.
5. Pit should be filled with garden top soil mixed with 20 kg of farm yard manure.
6. After 1 week, grafted saplings should be planted in the pit.
7. 2 weeks later, plant will start growing new leaves and some new branches too.
8. After 6 months, it will start full flowering and bear some tiny fruits as well.
9. At this stage, provide phosphorus rich organic fertilizer such as cow dung compost or farm yard manure.
10. For Best fruiting make sure to plant it in the place where it gets maximum sunlight.
11. It gives fruits twice a year during June-July and Dec-Jan. Best fruiting happens during Dec-January.
12. Apple Ber matures 150-175 days after flowering.
13. The fruit has been used in traditional medicine as an emollient, expectorant, coolant, anodyne and tonic.
