On our Route 66 road trip from Pontiac to Braidwood, Illinois, we soaked up the nostalgic charm of America’s Mother Road. We explored vintage gas stations that felt frozen in time, complete with retro pumps and classic signage. A highlight was stopping at the massive Wally’s gas station—a Buc-ee’s clone with a Midwest twist—where we browsed endless snacks and souvenirs. Further down the road, we pulled into the iconic Polka Dot Drive-In Diner, surrounded by life-size statues of Elvis and Marilyn. We topped off the day with a delicious banana milkshake that hit the perfect note of roadside Americana.
