4K drone flight over Bairnsdale and the Mitchell River in East Gippsland, cut to an original song “Hands That Built This Valley”. You see the river, town and new roadworks while the lyrics walk through Gippsland’s story of coal, timber, farming, fishing and government energy policy gone wrong.
The song looks at:
• How towns like Bairnsdale helped power Victoria through coal, smelters and the Maryvale paper mill
• The shutdown of white paper at APM / Opal Maryvale and the sudden closure of AKD Yarram
• Bad forest management, fuel loads and bushfires that waste timber while mills are told there is “no supply”
• Gas held in the ground by bans on exploration and fracking, pushing up prices for families and industry
• The hypocrisy of importing paper and timber from Indonesian rainforest, and wind and solar hardware from Chinese coal-fired factories
Footage
• Location: Bairnsdale, Mitchell River, East Gippsland, Victoria
• Shot on a modern DJI drone in 4K, ascending, panning and descending from one high vantage point
• View towards the Gippsland Lakes, town centre, river flats and new roundabout and bridge works
If you care about Gippsland, regional jobs, honest numbers on energy and real environmental stewardship, you will feel this one.
You are welcome to share the link with friends, local groups, timber and energy people, and anyone involved in Gippsland and Victorian policy debates. Leave a comment with your own story from Maryvale, Yarram, Bairnsdale or other mill and power towns.
