Deadly Bishops | Aronian vs Carlsen, Aimchess US Rapid 2021

This is a game between Levon Aronian and Magnus Carlsen from the 2021 Aimchess US Rapid (Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2021). In one of Carlsen's post-game interviews from the event, he spoke of this game and described it as basically flowing quite naturally for him. The opening is a closed Ruy Lopez where Aronian sets his sights on an imbalance only after Carlsen allowed a d5 outpost square to surface. Once the minor piece imbalance is aboard, each player invests the necessary tempi in the middlegame to achieve a positive in his position. In the end, one of the positives proved more important.
