A true story.
Ancient Gopro and pixel footage from my trip around the West on the 2000 Yamaha V-Star 650 I bought from my brother 5 years ago. I selected "avoid highways" in Google Maps and I found myself in some interesting locations... I'm not sure how they map these places- old topographical maps? Satellite photos? I know for a fact a Google car didn't go through the culvert under the interstate or up the old forest roads that were reduced to single, washed out paths by time and erosion.
You do not need an adventure bike to go adventure biking... you just need to hit the road.
Wildlife seen: Bison, elk, black bear, deer (white tail and mule), wild asses!, jack rabbits, gophers, lizards, and a host of scurrying rodents of variable flavors.
Most frequented entertainment: Singing to cattle as I drove by. They LOVE to be sung to.
Places to avoid: Our National Parks are either overrun, over-managed, or filled to capacity. National forest roads are the only places worth camping, anymore, unless you're after a shower... it's best to just be a dirtbag.
