How to Crochet the Cat Stitch 🐱 Step-by-Step Tutorial

In this tutorial we will be learning how to crochet the Cat Stitch - an easy stitch repeat that looks like lots of cats all in a row. Abbreviations:
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
st - stitch
sk - skip
sp - space
2dccl - 2 double crochet cluster (aka dc2tog)
- asterisks mean to repeat the stitches between them.
( ) - parenthesis mean to work the stitches inside the parentheses into the stitch indicated.

Instructions:
Ch a multiple of 5 + 1

Row 1) dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next st, sk2, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch, sk4, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch repeat across to last 4ch, sk2, dc in last 2ch, turn.

Row 2) ch3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in next st, sk2, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next sp, sk4, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch repeat across to last 4st, sk2, dc in last 2 st, FO and turn.

Join next colour to first st.

Row 3) ch3, dc in next st, 2dccl in sp 2 rows below, sk2, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next sp, sk2, 2dccl in sp 2 rows below repeat across to last 2st, dc in last 2st.

Row 4) ch3, dc in next st, sk3, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch, sk5, (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch repeat across to last 3 st, sk3, dc in last 2 st.

Repeat Rows 2-4 until desired size.
