Nigeria is set to receive a major boost to its air power as the country’s Minister of Defence inspects advanced military aircraft being produced by Leonardo S.p.A in Northern Italy.
During President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit for the AQABA Process Meeting in Rome, the Minister reviewed progress on ten AW109 Trekker attack helicopters and twenty-four M-346 Fighter Attack Jets being built for the Nigerian Air Force.
With insecurity worsening across several regions, the new aircraft are expected to play a critical role in counter-terrorism, close-air support, and rapid response operations.
Officials say several units are already completed or undergoing flight tests, with the first deliveries scheduled between late 2025 and early 2026.
