Of the 62 including this agraharam, Kodunthirapully is amongst the very few agraharams where the history, origins, rituals and other background information have been well articulated. My namaskarams to Managing trustee Sri  K S Balasubramanian.

My brother-in-law has always been upbeat about the Navaratri celebrations in this agraharam and when I visited this village for the first time, I could see why. It is one amongst the more pristinely preserved agraharams with mud roads and no thoroughfare.

The blog by Sri Narayanaswamy elaborates about the Kodunthirapully gramam:
"The ancestors of the Kodunthirapully Agraharam had migrated from a village Anbil situated nearby Srirangam in Trichy and settled down in 1234 AD. The Chaitanyam of Lord Sri Mahavishnu in Sri Ranganathaswamy temple as mentioned in Srimath Bhagavatham ‘Sri Rangakhyam Mahakshetram Nithyam Sannihitho Hari’ has been brought by Avahana as per Agamasasthra and performed Prathishta of Lord Maha Vishnu as Lord Sri Adhikesavaperumal with his consorts Goddess Bhoodevi and Sridevi. The Brahmins so migrated mainly belonged to Sholiar or chozhiar sect. People say that they originated from Chozha Desa. The Agraharam exclusively occupied by ‘Jaimini Samavedi Thalavakara Guru’ sakha the rarest rare, belongs to the Choliya class of Tamil Brahmins."

Incidentally the place Anbil is also called Premapuri - after Brahma and Valmiki were both arguing out of their love for the Lord, and hence the place came to be known as Anbil (in Tamil, anbu = love/affection). The name of this place in Sanskrit texts is Premapuri."

The blog further elaborates about the Sasthapreethi:
"In the Agrahaharam this ceremonial function is also called as “Ancham Kala Pattu” in resemblance to the Kerala style of 5th day Kalamaezhuthu Pattu starting from Malayalam month ‘Makaram’, which is so celebrated at “Nerumkaitha Kottai Ayyappaswamy Temple, Kadalundinagaram from wherein the God the Poorna Pushkalambal Sametha Harihara Puthra Swamy as Aswaruda, has come over to this place, Kodunthirapully. It is indeed celebrated in a unique style with distinct culture and tradition. By the overwhelming spirit and enthusiasms of the devotees, the Mahanaeyvaedyam “Sathasathayam Payasam” fully booked for more than 10 further coming years."
