🎬 Title: Conductive Ink: How to Screen Print a Conductive Pattern on a T-Shirt. Pt 2: Printing!
🔍 Description: Welcome to NovaCentrix! In this 4:23 video, Dr. Vahid Akhavan demonstrates an effective process for printing water-based silver conductive ink onto fabrics and textiles. The result is a very nice conductive trace that can be used for building different types of functional circuits.
The Metalon® HPS-FG32 water-based silver conductive ink he uses can be found here:

NovaCentrix also offers a screen-print kit, so you can get started right away with using these inks on your own project.

🔥 Key Highlights:
• After choosing the fabric, use an iron! Having a smooth and wrinkle-free fabric preparation is really important for achieving a high-quality print of the conductive ink.
• Ink prep is important also: Vahid recommends using a tongue depressor or popsicle stick to stir the ink and guide it onto the screen when pouring.
• Be sure to use enough ink: But not too much – you need enough to completely flood the working area of the pattern but not so much that it becomes unmanageable. This is where experience helps. Vahid recommends using passes, with the same ink pour, to get a good coverage on the fabric. This means using enough ink to get two good passes.
• Flood then Draw: Flooding the screen first preps the screen for uniform, higher-quality push-through of the conductive ink. When using the squeegee to draw the ink back down, be sure to apply uniform pressure in a very smooth motion. Notice how Vahid uses both hands and advises “pushing awfully hard”. Don’t forget to reflood between drawdowns of the squeegee.
🌟 Why Watch? This video captures several years of experience in properly screen-printing conductive ink onto fabrics. Key factors include fabric prep, ink prep, and most of all, how the ink is moved on the screen including flooding the screen and then the drawdown with the squeegee.
