Corrective jaw surgery (also known as orthognathic surgery) sometimes becomes necessary when braces and orthodontic treatment alone are not enough to correct a person’s bite. Misaligned jaws can be caused by genetic factors, facial injuries, or other environmental influences. Jaw problems can cause a variety of issues, from difficulty eating and speaking to headaches and jaw pain. Getting treatment for your jaw misalignment can drastically improve the appearance and function of your jaw.

Dr. Teeples attended Idaho State University and received his bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2003. He then attended dental school at Harvard University; in 2007, he graduated and received his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree. After dental school, Dr. Teeples felt that in order to provide his patients with the best care, he needed to attend medical school. He graduated from Mayo Medical School in 2011 with his MD. As a dual-degree oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Teeples has the highest qualifications to treat the full scope of oral and facial conditions.

Dr. Toponce received his undergraduate degree in 2006 from Weaver State University with a Bachelor of Integrated Studies for Spanish, Zoology, and Chemistry. He then attended dental school at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, where he completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree in 2010. Dr. Toponce has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery since he completed his residency in 2014. In addition to his position at Columbia Basin Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Toponce is also on staff at Cadillac Regional Center, Trios Medical Center, and Lourdes Medical Center, where he treats emergency facial trauma cases.

Dr. Cooper went into surgery because he wanted to be involved in corrective jaw surgery, facial reconstruction, and the treatment of patients with traumatic injuries. Dr. Cooper received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, in 1994. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Dr. Cooper decided he wanted to continue his education by attending dental school. In 1999, he graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) with hopes of becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
