Documenting the Undocumented
Highlighting the realities of migrants with precarious status through art and action.
Documenting the Undocumented is a project that will highlight the realities of migrants with precarious status and raise awareness about these struggles through art and action. The presenters want to hold space for folks with these experiences to affirm the realities of hardship and to demonstrate how challenges faced impact the community at large, but more importantly how creatives and community members can take action to move towards change.
Andi Vicente is an artist currently based in Tiohti:áke/Montreal. Their approach to their practice is humbled and radicalized by their work with different communities. They aim to broaden an understanding of oppressed experiences and encourage collective empowerment through the answering of the questions “Who is not here with us and how can I be there for you?” Andi was born to parents with precarious immigration status in Tkaronto/Toronto.
Sinda Garziz is an Amazigh, African, Arab immigrant in Canada, a migrant justice activist, a Community Worker at the centretown community health Center (CCHC) and currently pursuing an MA degree in social innovation at the St. Paul University.

She joined the transnational network No One Is Illegal advocating against oppressive borders and visa regime and providing support for migrants and refugees in different countries in South Europe essentially and North Africa. She participated in stopping different deportations of undocumented migrants in Tunisia and Germany and did advocacy work against “the left to die” policy in the Mediterranean Sea of migrants and the militarization of European borders.
In 2013, she moved to Ottawa to start her second degree in Conflict and Human Right Studies at the university of Ottawa and joined No One Is Illegal – the Ottawa Chapter and since then she has been involved in different committee and campaigns such as the Justice for Deepan Support Committee, Refugee Welcome – Ottawa, The End Immigration Detention Network and The Sanctuary City Network.
