According to its creators, “Texas” is a musical romance of Texas Panhandle history. It is also the longest running outdoor musical show in the U.S. Held in the stunning Palo Duro Canyon just outside Amarillo, (and magnificently directed by David Yirak), the show is a collective, mostly-volunteer endeavor that fosters pride and cultural belonging in the midst of a materialistic society that isn’t always geared toward sinking deep affectionate roots in one’s community. In this video you'll meet Gene Morrison, Edward Akinyemi and Nune Eduardo Perez, three men from totally different backgrounds who have been volunteering on the show over the years (some before being eventually hired) out of a desire to contribute to keeping alive the spirit and traditions of their region.
