Livestream Engineering - Video Setup

We wanted to share some technical information about how we are doing our livestreams, in case it is useful for other groups looking to do something similar.

This video series covers the full setup of the computer we use for streaming. We use Jamulus for audio and Zoom for video, with audio processing using a Digital Audio Workstation and video processing using Isadora, and OBS to stream the results to YouTube. You don’t need all these bells and whistles to livestream using Jamulus, but we wanted to take advantage of all the tools available to us.

The process is broken down into four parts:

Overview of the setup
Video setup, including Zoom, CamTwist, Isadora and OBS
Checking the performance of video effects
Audio setup, including Jamulus, Waveform Free and OBS

We are running in the MacOS environment, but the same concepts will work in Windows and Linux as well. Some applications are cross-platform, like Isadora and Jamulus, while others are Mac-specific, like BlackHole and Syphon. You will need to find the equivalents in other systems.
