Shifting Harmful Gender Norms Through Structured, Community-Based Engagement of Young Men

On 19th November 2025, as the world marked International Men’s Day under the global theme “Celebrating Men and Boys,” INUA KIKE convened 146 young men from the nine villages of Korogocho for a Boys-to-Men (A Journey to Manhood) sensitization workshop held at Ngomongo Village, New Apostolic Church.

This engagement forms part of INUA KIKE’s ongoing, structured community-based work with men and boys in the marginalized communities of Mathare, Korogocho and Baba Dogo. Through regular dialogues, mentorship sessions, and sensitization forums, we continuously engage young men as critical partners in preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Against a backdrop of rising SGBV cases in Kenya—particularly in Nairobi—this workshop provided a safe and reflective space for young men to engage in honest conversations on respect, consent, boundaries, accountability, and positive masculinity. Participants examined harmful social norms and attitudes that fuel violence and explored healthier, non-violent models of manhood and leadership.

At INUA KIKE, we recognize that ending SGBV requires consistent engagement with men and boys, not isolated interventions. By investing in continuous mentorship and education, we support young men to become responsible leaders, allies, and change agents within their homes and communities.

These 146 young men are part of a growing network of boys and men we engage regularly—strengthening community resilience and contributing to safer, more equitable societies.
