Here are the key takeaways:

🧬 PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) checks embryos for the correct number of chromosomes, helping identify euploid embryos with the best chance to implant and lead to a healthy birth.

📉 Embryo aneuploidy rises sharply with age, especially after 35: more than 1 in 3 embryos are abnormal over 35, over 50% by 40, and up to ~90% by 44—explaining many IVF failures and miscarriages.

🔬 The biopsy is done at the blastocyst stage (day 5–6) using a tiny sample that experienced embryologists remove without harming embryo development in most cases.

✅ PGT-A is a diagnostic/screening tool, not a treatment: it doesn’t create “better embryos,” but helps avoid transferring embryos unlikely to implant or likely to miscarry.

💛 Key benefits discussed: higher success per transfer, lower miscarriage risk, shorter time to pregnancy, and support for safe single-embryo transfer.

⚠️ Not recommended for everyone: Dr Tsakos stresses individualised decision-making, weighing benefits against cost, logistics, and small procedural risks.

👩‍🦳 Most valuable for women 35+, and especially 40+, plus patients with recurrent miscarriages, recurrent implantation failure, or known chromosomal issues.

🚫 Usually not justified in egg-donation cycles (young donors have very low aneuploidy rates), so routine testing there may add cost without clear benefit.

🧩 Mosaic embryos (mixed normal/abnormal cells) are a nuanced area: results may still allow transfer in select cases with careful counselling and follow-up.

🔭 Future direction: non-invasive PGT-A (testing embryo fluid without biopsy) and improved accuracy through new tech/AI, potentially making testing safer and simpler.
