Sierra Highway
Santa Clarita / Forest Park / Sleepy Valley
Episode 204
Sierra Highway (or El Camino Sierra) is a road in Southern California. El Camino Sierra refers to the full length of a trail formed in the 19th century, rebuilt as highways in the early 20th century, that ran from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe. This portion of the road is an old alignment of SR 14/U.S. Route 6 that runs from Los Angeles to Mojave. This road is also signed with the unusual designation of State Route 14U through the city of Santa Clarita.
Part of the reason why I wanted to cover this stretch of road is that I wanted to check out the Halfway House Café, which was prominently featured in “Twilight Zone: The Movie”. More specifically, the Halfway House Café was featured in the third segment of the movie, which is a remake of the episode "It's a Good Life", where a young boy with magical powers torments his surrogate family… If you’ve never seen “Twilight Zone: The Movie” it’s fantastic and has an even more haunted history that includes the very real death and decapitation of several of the actors.
