📍 Arrival at Thiruporur Murugan Temple
I first visit the temple tank, walk through the majestic East Rajagopuram, and witness the Abhishekam for Lord Murugan on Kiruthigai day.
🎙️ Interview with the Temple Priest
Next day I meet Thiru. Kumar Gurukkal, who explains the sacred history and Purana of the temple. He shares that the temple’s architecture is laid out in the shape of “OM”, and because of this spiritual form, the Kodimaram (flagstaff) stands outside the Rajagopuram – a unique feature of this temple.

About Thiruporur Murugan Temple
This ancient temple is one of the most powerful Murugan shrines near Chennai. It is believed that Lord Murugan manifested here to destroy evil forces and bless devotees with courage, wisdom, and success. Devotees come here for education, career growth, marriage, child blessings, and removal of obstacles. The temple is especially powerful for prarthanai (prayers) and fulfillment of vows.

We are blessed to hear the Pathigam sung by Othuvaar Devarajan Ravichandran, who also explains how Chidambara Swamigal guided devotees and contributed to building and reviving this temple.

Chidambara Swamigal was a great saint and visionary devotee of Lord Murugan. It is believed that Lord Murugan appeared in his dreams, guiding him and inspiring revival of the temple. Swamigal gave Vibhuti (holy ash) to countless devotees, bringing relief and blessings through divine grace.
