Pre-match press conference with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola ahead of Man City v West Ham in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola plays down West Ham’s league position, insisting his players are fully prepared and stressing his respect for their quality. He says City have improved results but can still do much better, adding they are not yet at the level required to compete to win titles despite the squad’s mentality and commitment.

Pep confirms there are no returning players for this match, with Jérémy Doku, John Stones, Rodri and Oscar Bobb still unavailable, although he suggests some could start to return after the upcoming fixtures. He praises the impact of Ryan Cherki and Nico González, highlighting their personality, mentality and importance to the team while insisting both still have room to improve.

Guardiola also addresses questions about his future, saying there are no discussions right now and joking that with “75 or 76” he will quit from Manchester City, while insisting he is here and focused on the matches ahead.

He finishes by discussing defensive work rate, using Savio as an example, and stresses that players must work backwards first before thinking about going forwards.
