Jyoti Basu announced industrial policy to rejuvenate West Bengal's industrial wasteland

Capital business and profits are no longer dirty words in West Bengal. The state used to revering the likes of Vladimir Lenin and Ho Chi Minh is today in a dramatic shift of policy laying out to the red carpet to industrialists both Indian and foreign to bring in the green box. The Industrial policy announced by the Jyoti Basu last year was an attempt to rejuvenate West Bengal's bleak industrial wasteland its were investment from foreign domestic private companies invited to spur industrial growth, rehabilitation of sick units, emphasis on infrastructural sectors such as power, telecom and roads, petrochemicals, steels, textiles, electronics and mining to be thrust areas, constant dialogue between management and labour. Industry on its part has responded favorably and an impressive roll call of investors has already been roped in these include mainly R. P. Goenka, Purnendu Chatterjee, B. M. Khaitan, Aditya Vikram and the Hindujas.
