متلازمة تكيس المبايض هي واحدة من اكثر اضطرابات الغدد شيوعا عند النساء في عمر الانجاب, اذ تتراوح نسبة الاصابة فيه في امريكا من 4-12%
و تعد هي المتلازمة السبب الاكثر شيوعا لحدوث حالات العقم في الولايات المتحدة
حصلت هي المتلازمة على اسمها من الاكياس الكثيرة الممتلئة بسائل (الكيسات) في المبيضين غالبا, مما يتسبب في تضخمها.
