Panna district in MP was once called “dal-katora” (bowl of pulses). But because of frost damage in pigeon pea crops, farmers stopped growing it.
Here’s a unique innovation for preventing frost damage in pigeon pea (arhar). These “easy-to-make” gobar gamla (cow dung pots) also becomes manure for the saplings, which can be transplanted without tilling the field. This technique has resulted in stronger crops and increased production of pigeon pea and more farmers in the villages of Shahnagar block in Panna (MP) have begun cultivating it. Hear it out from an extension worker himself about this unique innovation!
