Teaching Writing To Kindergarten & First Grade - Active Writing - Engaging Writing Activities

Teaching writing to kindergarten & first grade students can be really hard. At first I hated teaching writing in my kindergarten and first grade classrooms.
Why?
Well, for one, I tried to do a writing block that was way too long doing things the kids really didn’t find value in. When I decided to make writing time more like doing an art project and kept the writing time short and active, both me and my students started to look forward to writing time.
Here are a few tips and tricks for “active writing”. I don’t really know what to call it. It wasn’t usually a quiet time. Sometimes it was pretty loud.
I knew the approach was a winner when students would take their freetime to do a writing project on their own.
It’s exactly what we as teachers want, students writing on their own because they see themselves as writers. When your students write to solve a problem or create you know you’ve done a good job.
