Animated Biography of Churchill's life and his Finest Hour

This video is a short animated biography of Winston Churchill's life up until his Finest Hour speech. There are some facts which are less widely known about Churchill – the struggles he overcame to become a politician, the sadness in his personal life, as well as the great historic moments we all remember.

Every step of his journey contributed to the man voted 'Greatest Briton' – his early education, journalist experiences and family were all key factors. His political ambitions drove him to eventually become Prime Minister at a crucial time and cement his place in history.

Ancestry discovery site Find My Past asked video agency Swhype to initially consult on a social video treatment which would offer something different and surprising from the usual archive footage montage.

Taking the brief to heart we set about creating a style which could be used for other historical figures, which wouldn't rely on photographs or newspaper headlines.

From initial discussions, ultimately an illustrative style evolved, gradually becoming more organic and featuring some traditional cell frame elements.

Finally paired with a dramatic score and some creative sound design, the film describes Churchill's lesser known life obstacles, ultimately building to a climatic conclusion.
