The PERFECT jetboat bilge: DURATEC & clear GELCOAT

After all of the hard work I have put into this bilge and gelcoat, I really get to see it pay off! But to get to that payoff I need to turn my attention to the finer details of the project. Now that I have finished applying the custom color matched gelcoat to the bilge, I now need to tackle the task of addressing those small imperfections in the gelcoat of my 1979 Centurion Jet Boat.

My OCD and attention to detail got the best of me during this juncture of the build. I am doing my best to achieve perfection, so I decided that the next steps are to wet sand the gelcoat. The goal is to smooth out any irregularities and texture before applying a blend of 50% gelcoat and 50% Duratec for enhanced durability and resilience, and most important of all, gloss.

But before I can jump into applying the Durtec and Gel combo, I need to address some imperfections that I left in the initial application of gelcoat. I have a lot of pin holes that I need to see if I can eliminate. I also have several sections where the two colors did not but up directly on one another. I will try a few techniques to remidy these flaws.

Upon completion of touch ups, it's time to move on to the application of the Duratec and Clear gelcoat. This will provide a singular layer of protection, and gloss onto the bilge.

Once cured, we'll meticulously sand down the surface again, followed by the delicate art of cutting and buffing to achieve a flawless finish that surpasses the boat's original glory.

🚀 As my time with Ferrari came to an end, a new career path awaited me…. Aerospace. I am currently working at Blue Origin, helping to build & develop the BE-3PM and BE-3U rocket engines.
