i decided that since this HP has a recovery partition, i would go ahead and use it to just put a fresh copy of Windows XP on there. glad i documented it because HP did some interesting things to Windows back in the day to try to make it easier to use. the tour guide guy being the most unique to me. so what i'll be doing is uninstalling the bloatware with Revo Uninstaller and updating Windows XP up to Service Pack 3 and all the updates after that to make it a new modern Windows XP install.
