A moderate hike from Big Cottonwood Canyon Mill D North Trailhead to Dog Lake. It's a delightful hike through forests of spruce, Douglas fir, subalpine fir, and aspens. I saw a young moose along the way. I didn't see any salamanders at the lake, but I did see a raptor swoop down and pull something from the lake.
There's also a route to the lake from Mill Creek Canyon, so this destination is a nice spot between both canyons.
