Simi Valley -- Residential (WM/GI)

Waste Management - G.I. Industries has serviced the City of Simi Valley for over 40 years. Alex and I decided to take a trip out here to find some of their awesome revving Amreps. Here are six garbage trucks that we found working in the city:

(0:00) - 104717 & 104720: Arriving on Simi Valley's Friday route, these new Amreps were the first two trucks we stumbled upon with Jorge on green waste and Camilo on trash. Our main goal for the day was finding Benito Morales in 101644, the ex-HSS Amrep. Being a spare/relief truck, it can be found all over GI territory, however I received some route and truck information from Steve Lee early in the morning on where we could try to find it. We stopped to ask one of these drivers if he could point us in the direction of where Benito was working. Jorge called Benito for us and told him that we were looking for him, and Benito told us where we could try to find him. After that, we grabbed a quick clip of these two guys tag teaming a cul-de-sac. The trucks are pretty nice looking, especially with the yellow paint. We wanted to find more trucks in the area so we quickly grabbed a clip and moved on.

(1:15) - 101232: After looking around for a little bit, we found Miguel working a recycle route. This is such an awesome truck, especially with how fast and how hard Miguel operates it. Took about one street for him to warm up to us filming before he started to floor it! Definitely one of the many trucks that resembles GI's legacy of fast, revving Amreps. Also, one thing I really like about this truck is the green gripper. As big of a fan as I am of the yellow arms, it was really nice to see an almost full green arm for once.

(5:12) - 101644: So around 10:30, we headed to the Simi Valley Landfill to try and see if we could catch Benito there. There was a super long line that stretched outside the landfill which was really cool. Around 10:45, we were about to leave when we saw Benito pulling into the end of the landfill line! He saw us and knew who we were thanks to Jorge calling him earlier. While he was unloading, Alex and I grabbed a quick lunch down the street from the landfill, and after we finished, we headed back up to the turn out to wait for Benito. After about 10 minutes of waiting, Benito finally came out and pulled into the turnout right next to us. He asked us if we wanted to follow him to his route to see the truck in action, so we headed onto the 118 and followed him for about 10 minutes to his route on the east side of Simi Valley, where we finally got to see this awesome truck in action! So many neat things about it. First of all, being ex-HSS is really neat. Also, as many of you know, the exhaust pipe has drawn my attention to it for many months. Along with that, the hopper was modified by Santa Maria to handle 300 gallon containers when HSS ran it, so that was very interesting to see. Overall, a very cool truck on a neat route filled with old GI Rubbish Rotos. Huge thanks to Benito for letting us film and 20+ years of service to WM/GI! Hope you like the video, Benito! (10:33) - 101518: Here is a quick clip of Gerardo working recycle opposite of Benito. Very fast truck, unfortunately, by the time we finished with Benito, he was long gone.
