अश्वथामा या द्रोणी या रूद्र आप चाहे उन्हें जिस भी नाम से जानते हो, आपने उनके श्राप की कथा ज़रूर सुनी होगी। अश्वथामा का पूरा अस्तित्व उस श्राप से मानो जुड़ सा गया हो लेकिन उस श्राप से इतर भी अश्वथामा की एक कहानी हैं।

महाभारत के किरदार अश्वथामा वास्तव में सबसे शक्तिशाली योद्धाओं में से एक थे। वो गुरु द्रोण और माता कृपी का पुत्र था। ऐसा माना जाता हैं कि वो माथे पर मणि के साथ पैदा हुए थे।

उनके माथे पर जो मणी थी वो कोई साधारण मणि नहीं थी बल्कि वो मणि उनकी शक्ति का स्त्रोत थीं।

ऐसा माना जाता हैं कि उस मणी के साहयता से अश्वथामा अपनी भूख, प्यास और नींद पर नियंत्रण प्राप्त कर सकते थे। उस मणि के रहते कोई भी बीमारी अथवा रोग उन्हें छू भी नहीं सकता था और नाही उन्हें किस अस्त्र, शस्त्र, नाग अथवा देवों से किसी भी प्रकार का कोई भी भय था।

अश्वथामा का जन्म शिव वरदान से हुआ था और वो स्वयं 11 रुद्रों में से एक थे। जो स्वयं रूद्र हो उनकी शक्तियों के विषय में जो भी कहा जाए वो कम ही होगा।

शायद यहीं कारण था कि श्री कृष्ण ने जब अश्वथामा को श्राप दिया उससे पहले ही पांडवो अश्वथामा की मणि प्राप्त हो गई थी। महाशक्तिशाली रूद्र की ऐसी अवस्था बताती हैं कि कर्म से देव ना बच सके तो मनुष्य क्या ही बचेंगे!

Ashwatthama or Droni or Rudra, whatever name you know him by, you must have heard the story of his curse. It seems as if Ashwatthama's entire existence is linked to that curse, but apart from that curse, there is a story of Ashwatthama.

Ashwatthama, a character from Mahabharata, was indeed one of the most powerful warriors. He was the son of Guru Drona and Mata Kripi. It is believed that he was born with a Mani on his forehead.

The Mani on his forehead was not an ordinary Mani, but that Mani was the source of his power.

It is believed that with the help of that Mani, Ashwatthama could control his hunger, thirst and sleep. With that Mani, no disease or illness could touch him and neither did he have any fear of any weapon, arms, snake or gods.

Ashwatthama was born with the boon of Shiva and he himself was one of the 11 Rudras. Whatever is said about the powers of Rudra himself will be less.

Perhaps this was the reason that before Shri Krishna cursed Ashwatthama, the Pandavas had already obtained Ashwatthama's gem. Such a state of the mighty Rudra tells us that if Gods cannot escape from their deeds, how can humans be saved!
