Around the world, disabled activists are pushing back against systems that exclude them from holding governments accountable. Featuring interviews across 11 countries and 4 continents, this documentary highlights the urgent need for independent, disabled-led monitoring of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
"Article 33, it is the soul of the Convention,” says one participant. “If we don't have monitoring mechanism ... we'll have word in the paper, nothing else.”
Researcher and World Institute on Disability Global Heumann Fellow Robbie Francis Watene documents the risks and roadblocks faced by disabled advocates, from gatekeeping and underfunding to government pressure to stay silent. Yet, amid these challenges, the call remains strong: “We need a collective voice, strong voice.”
