Chalo Loku is one of the major festivals of the Nocte tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, celebrated with great energy and community spirit. Here’s a clear and simple explanation:
🌾 What is Chalo Loku?
• Chalo Loku is an agricultural festival of the Nocte people.
• Celebrated before the start of harvesting, usually in November.
• The word:
• “Cha” = Paddy
• “Lo” = Season
• “Ku” = Festival
So it’s basically the festival marking the arrival of the harvest season.
🎉 Why is it celebrated?
• To thank nature for good crops.
• To pray for prosperity, health, and peace.
• To strengthen community bonds through dancing, feasting, and rituals.
🥁 How is it celebrated?
• Traditional Nocte dance (Aaphi) and music.
• People wear beautiful traditional attire.
• Animal sacrifice and rituals performed by the village priest (Shamans).
• Villagers come together to feast, drink, and celebrate.
• No agricultural work is done during the festival—only celebration.
🌟 Significance
Chalo Loku is not just a festival; it’s part of the Nocte identity and a way of preserving their culture, unity, and heritage.
There was cultural night as well on the same day named as (Samtong night) where the pride of North East India @FLorinaGogoiSuperDancer performed live which was so mesmerising to watch
