During World War I, it served as a hospital ship for the British military. In 1916, while in the Aegean Sea, the Britannic struck a mine and sank quickly, resulting in the loss of 30 lives. The ship's quick evacuation and advanced safety features contributed to minimizing casualties. Despite its short operational life, the Britannic is known for its role as both a luxury liner and a hospital ship during a critical period in history.
