Great Britain is transforming its energy future. Once dependent on fossil fuels, it now leads one of the fastest decarbonising electricity grids in the G7 — and the ambition is growing.
On 1 October 2024, the Electricity System Operator officially became the National Energy System Operator (NESO) — a new, independent public corporation owned by the UK Government. NESO brings together electricity and gas system planning for the first time, enabling a truly integrated, whole-system approach.
With a focus on clean, reliable and affordable energy, NESO is central to achieving net zero and building a resilient energy system for generations to come.
