Last winter, American playwright Richard Nelson directed the play for Theater on Podil, one of the most prestigious theaters in Ukraine, about a production of “Macbeth” outside Kyiv in 1920. “I wanted to write a play about six young women putting on a play in the middle of a war,” he said, “to be performed by six young women putting on my play in the middle of a war.”
Nelson presented the world premiere of the final play of his Rhinebeck Panorama at Hunter College in 2021, and presented his adaptation of “Uncle Vanya” at Hunter in 2018.
Recorded Thursday, September 18, in the Frederick Loewe Theatre at Hunter College, while the “When the Hurlyburly’s Done” played at the Public Theater.
Introduction by Gregory Mosher, Executive Director, Office of the Arts; Special Adviser to the President for the Arts; Patty and Jay Baker Professor of Theatre, Hunter College.
