The Good Friday night time procession, conceived as a giant morality play, is the culmination of Lorca Easter week processions.
All the Lorca fraternities take part except the Brotherhood of the Resurrection (who have their procession on Easter Sunday) - including the Incarnate, Purple, Blue, Black and the White fraternities.
More than 500 horses, dozens of chariots and battalions of Roman Soldiers participate.
The embroidery of the robes of Our Lady of Sorrows and of Our Lady of the Bitter Tears are among the most treasured textiles in Spain. Lorca is renowned for the skills of the embroiderers --the gold embroidery of many of the robes worn by the Nazarenes (the hooded people) in the processions took as much as 35,000 hours work by eight women to complete.
