“Taste Fruitful Life” is a three-year campaign, funded by the EU, that aims to promote European fresh fruits to the markets of Norway and Serbia. The main objective of the campaign is to raise the awareness regarding the quality of European agricultural products and the high standards that are applied during production and processing methods in the EU as well as to enhance the competitiveness of the EU agricultural sector.
More specifically, the campaign aims to promote peaches, nectarines, cherries and apples, fruits that have unique properties in terms of quality, freshness and taste, and are produced in Greece.
The proposed action was submitted by two Agricultural Cooperatives, namely “ASEPOP Velventos” and Rachi Pieria “AGIOS LOUKAS”.
The Agricultural Cooperative “ASEPOP Velventos” is located in Kozani, a northern part of Greece. It was established in 1917 and counts about 400 active member producers who cultivate more than 650 hectares. The cooperative has managed to become well known beyond the Greek borders thanks to its excellent quality products and its modern cultivation methods. Its products comprise mainly peaches, nectarines, apples kiwi, cherries and apricots.
The Agricultural Cooperative Rachis Pierias “O AGIOS LOUKAS” is located in Pieria, also in northern Greece, was officially established in 1991 and counts over 100 members that cultivate cherries in an area of more than 110 hectares. The cooperative applies certified quality standards in the cultivation and processing procedures and its policy is governed by principles that respect consumers, producers as well as the environment.
European peaches, cherries, nectarines and apples, are manufactured on the basis of a series of restrictive standards and procedures arising from the Common Agricultural Policy. This means that all food producers operating within the European Union are obliged to comply with the EU regulations that allow supervision of the entire path “from the farm to the table”.
EU farm policy has changed considerably in recent decades to help farmers face these challenges and respond to changing people’ s attitudes and expectations. EU agricultural policy covers a wide range of areas, including food quality, traceability, trade and promotion of EU farm products. The EU financially supports its farmers and promotes sustainable and eco-friendly practices while also investing in rural development. As a result, the consumers enjoy high quality fruits that combine unique taste with guaranteed food safety.
