I use "x" to transcribe Hebrew letters Het and Haf - the sound of which doesn't exist in English. Usually they are transcribed using the combination "ch" (i.e. Chanukah, chutzpah) which I find wrong, because (A) it gives people who are unfamiliar with Hebrew transcription rules (= most people) the wrong idea of how these letters should be pronounced, and (B) the sound "ch" already exists in modern Hebrew! So transcribing both of these different sounds using the same grapheme is a recipe for a pretty confusing transliteration!

So, how do we pronounce x (Het and Haf)? Like the "ch" in the Scottish Gaelic "loch" or the German "achtung".
