Part 2 of making PiStorm32-lite in 8k camera test
DIY Outline:
Use 3x magnification, you want to be able to see each pin clearly.
Step 1. Clean the board with iso-prop
Step 2. Add flux
Step 3. Apply Solder to the pads
Step 4. Clean with iso-prop and inspect that each pad is evenly coated
Step 5. Apply flux to the tinned pads
Step 6. Place the FPGS, note orientation , pin 1 is the small spherical indent on the case of the FPGA it matches to the board, white dot for pin 1.
Step 7. Make sure and carefully align each pin, if something is bent or not directly and evenly in line then you must stop.
Step 8. Once aligned on all 4 sides evenly you can continue. Carefully add more flux over the FPGA pins, making sure not to move the FPGA.
Step 9. Final check and alignment
Step 10. Solder 1 Pin in opposite corners, check alignment and continue with the next 2 coners.
Step 11. Check everything , alignment, pin1 , any damaged pins etc..
Step 12. Carefully pass a dry iron over the pins observe the solder melt and cover the legs.
Step 13. Continue to do this on all 4 sides, taking extreme care not to help any plastic hardware or desolder any small components while working.
Step 14. Clean up with Iso-prop
Step 15. Check for any obvious missing solder or dry joints
Step 16. Solder on the A1200 trapdoor header, 120 pins :-)
Soldering Iron used is a basic 25w hardware store type ~$20au - Tradeflame with a switch and led light, can do everything.
