Stateful hash based signatures provide the best ratio of maturity and efficiency but require the handling of the state in a secure manner. In this talk we show how to leverage the usability and practical efficiency of stateful signature schemes.
We show how to (nearly) close the gap between stateful and stateless signature schemes by a high level of automation built on top of a secure distributed state handling scheme.
Furthermore, we show details and lessons learned of how to increase the efficiency by distributing the key generation process and outsourcing the computation of the public authentication path to trustworthy external modules.
Putting all the pieces together results in a highly agile architecture that provides the maximum of flexibility for the whole life span of the use case by fully preserving the security and maturity of the stateful hash based signatures.
