Story Telling: Writing, Reading, Eating (E65)

Автор: Let's Go Tagalog

Описание:

This video tells a story of my wife and children and what they are doing. In telling the story, we get to hear the use of Tagalog Markers (si, sina, ang, ng, etc.) which were covered in previous videos (see link below).

The story also introduces some verbs conjugated in the PROGRESSIVE ASPECT. The sample verbs are ACTOR FOCUSED and OBJECT FOCUSED verbs:

• Nagsusulat (writing), an Actor Focused Verb
• Isunusulat (writing), an Object Focused Verb

• Nagbabasa (reading), an Actor Focused Verb
• Binabasa (reading), an Object Focused Verb

• Kumakain (eating), an Actor Focused Verb
• Kinakain (eating), an Object Focused Verb

The differences between ACTOR FOCUSED and OBJECT FOCUSED verbs are:
• ACTOR FOCUSED VERBS: The focus is the DOER or the ACTOR of the action, like who is writing, who is reading, who is eating. Actor Focused verbs are generally used in declarative sentences. Verbs used with Actor Focused verbs are generally GROUP 1 personal pronouns.
• OBJECT FOCUSED VERBS: The focus is OBJECT of the action, like what is being written, what is being read, what is being eaten. Verbs used with Object Focused verbs are generally GROUP 2 personal pronouns.

Here are SOME SAMPLE SENTENCES used in this video.

• Ano ang GINANAWA mo? (What are you DOING?)
• NAGSUSULAT ako (I am WRITING)
• Ano ang ISINUSULAT mo? (What are you WRITING?)
• NAGSUSULAT AKO ng report (I am WRITING a report)
• ISINUSULAT ko ang plano namin para sa opisina. (I am WRITING our plan for the office)

• Ano ang GINANAWA mo? (What are you DOING?)
• NAGBABASA po ako. (I am READING), “po” is honorific added to the sentence when talking to someone older
• Ano ang BINABASA mo? (What are you READING)
• NAGBABASA po ako ng kwento (I am READING a story)
• BINABASA ko po ang kwento ni Harry Potter (I am reading the story about Harry Potter)

• Ano ang GINANAWA mo? (What are you DOING?)
• KUMAKAIN po ako (I am EATING)
• Ano ang KINAKAIN mo? (What are you EATING?)
• KUMAKAIN po ako ng pizza (I am eating pizza)
• KINAKAIN ko po ang pasalubong ni mama (I am EATING the food bought by mama)

MORE SAMPLE SENTENCES are discussed in the video.

SIDE NOTE:

In one of the sample sentences, the word PASALUBONG was used. It means gifts, food or snacks brought to the home from travel or a trip outside home (like returning from the office). The closest foreign language equivalent would be the Japanese OMIYAGE.
