This is footage of a walk along at the top of Sunset Cliffs in the Point Loma Community of San Diego, California on a gorgeous Monday Lunch Hour April 7, 2025. Sunset Cliffs is a San Diego Gem.
Located on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard south of Ocean Beach in the City of San Diego, California, the cliffs expose the geology of the Point Loma exposing the Point Loma Formation from the ancient shale and sandstone layer from the late Cretaceous Period. The exposed formation extends approximately 5 miles from Ocean Beach to the Point Loma Lighthouse along the westside of the Point. The landforms include beaches, cliffs stablized by manmade means including boulders placed to lessen and slow erosion, and cement stablization techniques to cover and decrease the rate of erosion.
Visitors and locals are common in the area recreating above and below the cliffs, on the beaches, and in the water. The cliffs are an excellent vantage point to view the Southern California Sunsets. People gather here for yoga, weddings, 4th of July, environmental exploration of the rocks and sea caves at low tide. The Ladera Street stairs at the end of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard provide safe access to the ocean for surfers and other brave water athletes. A visit to Sunset Cliffs makes exploring the San Diego Coast more worthwhile.
Sunset Cliffs is a half hour drive from Downtown San Diego and/or Mission Valley and 10 minutes from Point Loma, Shelter and Harbor Island, and Mission Bay Resorts.
