Gopalaswamy Hills at a distance of 220km from Bangalore and 60km from Mysore.

Private vehicles are not allowed within the area of the temple and hence the visitors must use the government transport to reach the temple. The parking space is available at the foot of the hill and we can park our vehicles there. There are frequent govt buses travelling to and fro the foot and peak of this hill. The KSRTC bus charges 60rs for the two way journey of visitors and the parking fee for private vehicles is 30rs. This hill is a no plastic zone and hence the passengers’ bags are checked at the check-post before the journey to the temple. There are no stores/hotels past this check-post. The temple is open all round the year from 8:30 am to 4pm. Although Winter and monsoon are the best seasons to plan your visit. Spending time in the Misty hill and green jungle will be a welcome experience. This is a tiger reserve and hence strict rules are in place. The Gopalaswami temple on the peak of the hill was built in 1315 under the reign of a Ballala king and later renovated by the Mysore emperors. There is a view point 2 to 3 kms before the peak and gives a panoramic view of the Himavad Gopala Swamy hill.
One is surrounded by lush green hills and can have breathtaking view of jungle from the peak.
The cool breeze even in the blazing sun, the chimes of bells from the temple, the whole place encapsulated by the fog brings about tranquility and joy in the hearts of visitors. It’s Interesting to note that the view of the hills extend to Ooty,Tamil Nadu as well.

Watching sunrise and sunset from this heavenly spot is an opportunity that visitors should not miss. However, people are strictly banned from any trekking or exploration activities. Also, drinking is a strict No in this area.

Visitors can enjoy the beauty of this place by staying within the temple vicinity and should not cross the fence and trespass into the surrounding forest area.

The presence of Elephants and Tigers in this jungle is the main reason why the private vehicles are not allowed. The safety of visitors is kept in mind and hence the above rules are strictly enforced by the Forest department authorities.
