Fighters from Western countries, including the US, are joining the ranks of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces
They are taking on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.
They will be at the forefront of an attack being planned around the city of Raqqa, the last major stronghold of ISIL in Syria.
