ISLAND
I've been living inside a mountain for how long?
Who's counting?
Been trying to avoid all the trouble.
I've been climbing all around the treetops
seeing where the sand stops,
searching for life in the rubble.
The rain gets nastier, tint of yellow in the water.
The season's crop is overdue.
Is it me, or does--as hazy days get hotter--
the island disappear from view?
The surf is edging up the hillside
causing all the mudslides,
separating my provisions.
In the darkness I can hear the wind scream:
the result of a bad dream.
And I ain't up to making decisions.
Do you have some air that I can borrow?
You know I'm looking for some clean stuff.
I can't hold my breath until tomorrow.
Could you spare a bottle of your sunshine?
I haven't had it in a long time.
We'll have a taste, forget the sorrow.
