The year, not to mention everything else about the circumstances under which this recording was made are unknown to me—the one who originally transferred it and was gracious enough to share a copy does not know either.
Ludmila Sosina (1918-2015) was one of many female Russian performers suppressed during the Soviet period and, luckily, afforded a second chance by our internet age. She worked with the legendary teacher Alexander Goldenweiser in Moscow, but almost nothing about her beyond that seems to be publicly available knowledge. It’s unfortunate that her opportunity for recognition is even smaller than some other censored artists, having recorded only two pieces of music across her whole life. They’re two of the best concerto recordings ever made (the other is a fabulous Rachmaninoff Op. 1 that you should check out on ADGO’s channel) yet I would argue that this one is the better of them; such an unconventional take on this already uncommon piece by a pianist who recorded basically nothing else is a statement in its own right.

If you happened to notice that a video I uploaded earlier today just got deleted, don’t worry! You’ll understand soon ;)
