EBONY JEWELWINGS! Most Beautiful DAMSELFLY!

Have you EVER seen such beautiful damselflies? These ebony jewelwings took me by surprise with their beauty while we were filming the other week so I knew I had to grab my camera and get some shots of these spectacular insects! These animals belong to the order Odonata which relates them to dragonflies and other damselflies. Like other animals in this order, these iridescent creatures are carnivorous throughout their entire lives. These animals spend many months in an aquatic nymph stage preying on aquatic animals before growing large enough to haul themselves out of the water and molt into adults. As adults these animals feed primarily on small flies such as mosquitos and gnats, and they spend most of their time dancing around small creeks and rivers in the Southeastern United States.
