Haunted House, Alton Towers — May 1992 On-Ride POV

The Haunted House was a large haunted dark ride opened at Alton Towers in 1992. The attraction was created with more of a fantasy style, but alterations started to be made from April 1992 in an attempt to make the ride scarier. This extremely rare recording from May captures the ride in a transitional period during the alterations.

No full video has ever been found of the very first version of the ride. Over the next several years the fantasy theme was removed almost entirely.

This is a new, better quality transfer from the original VHS source and now in 50p. It's very dark but is still the only decent on-ride video from its opening year!

The ride was revamped several times and eventually became Duel in 2003, now replaced by The Curse At Alton Manor.

For those interested, here's the all the changes listed at the time this was recorded:
Most figures that were originally UV now repainted and relit to become jumpscares (giant fingers, smaller spiders, troll, column monster, serpent, gargoyle monster)
Giant spider de-activated pending new animation mech
Flying ghost can be heard but was likely de-activated at this time
2 extra screaming heads added and bridge monster relocated from swamp
Witch in tomb replaced bridge monster
Added scenery/detail to scenes
