Former Haitian dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier, also known as Baby Doc, has spoken publicly for the first time since he returned to his homeland after 25 years in exile.
He acknowledged that under his regime, people were assassinated and suffocated - and expressed his sadness. It's not clear why Duvalier is back, but there's no doubt his presence muddies the waters of a country already mired in deep political turmoil.
Inside Story, with presenter Shiulie Ghosh, discusses the significance of Duvalier's return in a country caught between its past and future.
